Understanding How the Reflector Panel Works:

Showing the reflector panel at different angles: back, upright and forwardThe lighting from the rear panel changes as you use different angles. Slightly back of vertical gives the softest light and least shadows. 45° forward gives maximum bounce power when you need it. In-between positions let you fine tune the light as you need.

DIFFUSER: Understanding How the Clear Panel Works:

Showing the clear diffuser panel at different angles: forward, upright and backThe diffuser can be set forward for close-ups anywhere or medium shots in a room with a ceiling. It can be set vertically for medium shots in a high-ceiling room or outdoors. Hooding the flash is the most powerful setting.

General Procedure Suggestion

In all photography situations, both indoors and outside, start with the least powerful setting (reflector all the way back). Add power with the reflector only as needed.

DIFFUSER: Putting It All Together

New users should practice using each part separately before putting the two together. You may find that using one element or the other alone is your best solution to many lighting situations.

Normally photographers set the clear panel in a slightly forward position and change the angle of the Flip-it! reflector according to the softness and power needed. If maximum bounce power is required for special shots, like wedding processionals in large spaces, the clear panel is taken off and reattached afterwards.
